Beaujolais is a light red made in France from the Gamay grape. It is a mild wine that is easy to drink and 10 percent alcohol by volume. It is made by a combination of carbonic maceration and chaptalization or adding sugars to boost the alcohol content. This wine is complemented with Brie, Swiss or mild Munster cheeses.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the name of the grape that produces this complex and rich wine. These grapes are grown practically everywhere such as South America, Australia, Lebanon, North America and France. The flavor can range from mellow and smooth to complex and hearty and possesses a deep red color. Underlying flavors are blackberry, black currant and an oaky vanilla (from the oak casks) and is best served with beef, lamb, goose, chocolate, Brie and Cheddar cheeses.

Traditional Chianti is in a basket bottle made from red Sangioves and Canaiolo grapes as well as white Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes. This wine possesses a strong and bold flavor that complements heavily seasoned foods.

Merlot is a new addition as a table wine. It is not well suited for aging and was typically used as a blending wine in order to soften heavier wines like Cabernet. Merlot is a mild red with an easy flavor that is an excellent addition to vegetarian pasta and potato dishes. It is an easy introduction to red wine and good for beginners.
